For the last 40 years the Greek Islands have been, and remain one of the most popular holiday destinations among visitors from the cooler climes of northern Europe. Once on any of the islands travellers tend to spend their time soaking up the sunshine on the golden beaches, seeing the historical sites and visiting popular restaurants and nightclubs in and around their resorts. for tourists who want to see a number of interesting destinations for the price of one holiday there is the option of booking a cheap cruise. Itineraries for cruises generally include the popular holiday islands and a couple of days in the capital, Athens.

The Greek capital is full of fun touristy things to do and the city is home to a number of world famous antiquities, both in the museums and in various places around the city. Ancient Thira is where to go for the best historical ruin on Santorini as well as the museums that will give tourists a greater insight into the sites around the island. The Archaeological Museum and the New Archaeological Museum house the pick of Santorini’s ancient artefacts while the Megaro Ghisi museum houses interesting artefacts from the 16th century onwards.

After Santorini ships will head down towards Mykonos another popular holiday island. Like Santorini, Mykonos has some great beaches, a good choice of historical sites and some excellent museums including the popular Maritime museum and Folk museum, both in Mykonos Town. The best beaches on the north coast are located in Panormos Bay and Ftelia but it is the south coast where holidaymakers will find the pick of the island’s beaches. Paradise and Platys Gialos are two of the best beaches on Mykonos’ south coast and both are close to the busiest tourist resorts.


The broad range of destinations are what make the idea of a discount cruise so attractive to passengers wanting to enjoy various experiences and great service for the price of one holiday. Cruise ship passengers with a passion for hiking and visiting ancient ruins will enjoy the stop off on Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands. Among the sites are the ruins of the palaces of Knosos and Phaestos, both built by the Minoans. To learn more about the ancient sites visitors should peruse the exhibits of the Irakleio archaeological museum.
